Q came equipped with a wired remote for the anchor windlass. The wire kept getting caught around things and never seemed long enough. We thought it might be more convenient to have a wireless unit like the one we had on SacreBleu… where we found an automotive remote that worked well.
We did even better. We found an affordable marine unit on Amazon that Chantal really likes. They were affordable enough (about $40) that we were able to justify a backup unit. The only challenge seems to be that the batteries are fairly rare 12v cells and they don’t last too long (about a year). We were able to find spares in Papeete… so they are not THAT hard to find… but if you buy one of these… we suggest you take spare batteries.
We also mounted the remote on a neck strap that separates easily. A good safety precaution for anything you wear around your neck on a sailboat IOHO.
