There are many important systems on a boat… but there are few more important that an autopilot… especially on a short-handed cruising sailboat. Because of that… thanks to eBay… we have been able to purchase a duplicate of each component of our autopilot. We also have a spare hydraulic pump… hydraulic ram… and one of each of the hydraulic hoses between the two.

That last items turned out to be VERY helpful… when our autopilot burst a hose 1000 miles from Gambier, French Polynesia. We WERE able to fix it!

One note… don’t forget to carry enough hydraulic fluid (we learned that lesson the hard way).
